The modern American holiday of Mother’s Day was first celebrated in
1908, when
Anna Jarvis held a memorial for her mother in Grafton,
West Virginia.  Her campaign to make "Mother’s Day" a recognized
holiday in the United States began in 1905, the year her beloved
mother, Ann Reeves Jarvis, died.

SINGER DONOVAN IS 69 TODAY

Donovan (born Donovan Philips Leitch in England)

Singer/songwriter Donovan had hits in the 1960s like "Catch the Wind"
and "Sunshine Superman." He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall
of Fame in 2012. He had polio as a kid, which is the reason for the limp
he has today.

COUNTRY SINGER BORN ON THIS DAY IN 1914

Clarence Eugene "Hank" Snow (May 9, 1914 – December 20, 1999)

Hank Snow’s career spanned almost a half-century. He released 140 albums
and is best known for songs such as "I’m Moving On" and “The Golden Rocket”.

Known as The Singing Ranger, Snow was born in Canada. He became one of
the most influential artists in all of country music.

 

 

"I’ve Been Everywhere" was written by Australian country singer Geoff Mack in 1959.
