Michael Jackson was born in Gary, Indiana in 1958. He began
performing with his four brothers in the pop group the Jackson
5 when he was a child.
The group scored its first No. 1 single in 1969, with “I Want You
Back.” By age 11, Jackson was appearing on TV, and by age 14
he had released his first solo album.
In a national response, President Donald Trump
ordered all U.S. flags to be flown at half-staff
until Aug. 31, 2025, in memory of the victims
of Wednesday’s shooting at the Minneapolis

Hungary, formally entered World War I, Romanian troops
cross the border of the Austro-Hungarian Empire into the
much-contested province of Transylvania.
By the outbreak of war in Europe in 1914, Romania had
long been at odds with Austria-Hungary over the issue
of territory—specifically Transylvania, which was
ethnically Romanian but then part of Hungary.
Seeing Russia’s success against Austria on the battlefields
of the Eastern Front during the summer of 1916, Romania
hoped to make an advantageous entry into the war in order
to realize long-held dreams of territorial expansion and
national unity.
On August 27, 1908, future President Lyndon Baines Johnson
was born on a farm near Stonewall, Texas. The outspoken
Johnson grew up in an impoverished rural area and worked
his way through a teachers’ training college before entering
politics.
