MOVIE PREMIERED ON THIS DAY IN 1969

Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid: From Traditional Western Values to  Peace and Love by Keira C Wingert – American Icons

On September 23, 1969, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid,
starring Paul Newman and Robert Redford as a team of bank
robbers in the Old West, premiered in New York City.

The film was a commercial and critical success, receiving seven
Oscar nominations (including Best Picture and Best Director)
and winning in the categories of Best Screenplay (William
Goldman), Best Song (Burt Bacharach’s “Raindrops Keep
Falling on My Head”), Best Score and Best Cinematography.

On September 22, 1994, the television sitcom Friends, about
six young adults living in New York City, debuted on NBC.

The show, which featured a group of relatively unknown
actors, went on to become a huge hit and air for 10 seasons.

It also propelled the cast—Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox,
Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry and David
Schwimmer to varying degrees of stardom and success

The first issue of the National Geographic Magazine, without
photos, was published on September 22, 1888, eight months
after the Society was founded.

In September 2022, the magazine laid off six of its top editors
and In June 2023 laid off all of its
staff writers, shifting to an
entirely freelance-based writing model, and announced that
beginning in 2024 it would no longer offer
newsstand issues.
