ORGANIZATION FOUNDED ON THIS DAY
On August 21, 1980, animal rights advocates Ingrid Newkirk
(above) and Alex Pacheco (below) found People for the Ethical
Treatment of Animals. Rising from humble beginnings, PETA
will soon become the world’s foremost and most controversial
animal rights organization.

DOG HAS GOTTEN SECOND CHANCE AT LIFE
‘Hero dog’ named Ivy — whose blood donation saved other animals in need – got adopted after facing potential
euthanasia. Ivy is a 1-and-a-half-year-old mixed breed cur.
Anyone who is interested in joining the "Hero Dog "
program, is asked to contact Tyler Animal Emergency
Clinic at 903-534-0459.
A REMINDER FROM THE PDX RETRO BLOG
Colleen Paige, animal welfare advocate and pet and
family lifestyle expert, founded National Pet Day in
2006 to celebrate the joy pets can bring to us. But
she also wanted to bring attention to the ongoing
needs of many pets of all kinds waiting in shelters
to be adopted.
Paige encouraged people who want purebred dogs
and cats to contact rescue organizations instead
of going to a breeder. “Don’t shop! Adopt!” has
become the holiday motto.
Colleen Paige and friends.
