is a prime-time animated sitcom that was produced by Hanna-
Barbera, originally airing on ABC-TV from Sunday September 23, 1962, to
March 3, 1963. At the time of its debut, it was the first program ever to be
broadcast in color on ABC.

WALT DISNEY MOVIE OPENED ON THIS DATE IN 1942

The animated film Bambi was produced by Walt Disney and ws based on the book Bambie, A Life in the Woods by Felix Salten of Austria. The film was released by
RKO Radio Pictures and opened at Radio City Music Hall in New York City on
August 13, 1942. It is the fifth film in the Disney Animated Classics Series. In June
2008, the American Film Institute presented its “10 Top 10” list of the best ten films
in each of ten “classic” American film genres. After the polling was completed, Bambi
placed third in animation.

BETTY BOOP 

Betty Boop is an animated cartoon character created by Max Fleischer (below). She originally appeared in the Talkartoon and Betty Boop film series, which were produced
by Fleischer Studios and released by Paramount Pictures. She has also been featured
in comic strips and mass merchandising. Despite having been toned down in the mid-1930s to appear more modest, she became one of the most well-known and popular cartoon characters in the world. Betty Boop made her first appearance on August 9,
1930, in the cartoon Dizzy Dishes. Singer Helen Kane was the model for Boop.

FIRST OSCAR WINNING CARTOON ON THIS DAY IN 1932

Flowers and Trees
is a 1932 Silly Symphonies cartoon produced by Walt Disney. It
was released to theaters by United Artists on July 30, 1932. The short was the first commercially released film to be produced in the full Technicolor process. Flowers
and Trees
was a commercial and critical success, winning the first Academy Award
for Animated Short Subjects.
