DEBUT OF THE ABA ON THIS DAY IN 1967
On October 13, 1967, the Anaheim Amigos lost to the
Oakland Oaks, 134-129, in the inaugural game of the
American Basketball Association.
In its first season, the ABA included 11 teams: the
Pittsburgh Pipers, Minnesota Muskies, Indiana
Pacers, Kentucky Colonels and New Jersey
Americans played in the Eastern Division, and
the New Orleans Buccaneers, Dallas Chaparrals,
Denver Rockets, Houston Mavericks, Anaheim
Amigos and Oakland Oaks played in the Western.

WHEN THE ‘’NEW WORLD’’ WAS REACHED
After sailing across the Atlantic Ocean, Italian explorer Christopher Columbus saw a Bahamian island on October 12, 1492, believing
he has reached East Asia.
His expedition went ashore the same day and claimed the land for Isabella and Ferdinand of Spain, who sponsored his attempt to
find a western ocean route to China, India, and the fabled gold
and spice islands of Asia.
Columbus had set sail from Spain on August 3, 1492, with three
ships: the Santa MarÃa, the Niña, and the Pinta.

FIRST TELEVISION BROADCAST FROM ORBIT
Apollo 7, the first manned Apollo mission,was launched with
astronauts Walter M. Schirra, Jr.; Donn F. Eisele; and Walter
Cunningham aboard.
Under the command of Schirra, the crew of Apollo 7 conducted
an 11-day orbit of Earth, during which the crew transmitted the
first live television broadcasts from orbit.
