Actor Jeffrey Leon "Jeff" Bridges won the Academy Award for Best Actor for his
portrayal of Otis “Bad” Blake in the 2009 film Crazy Heart. His career began
when he worked as a child with his father, Lloyd Bridges and brother Beau
Bridges in the syndicated television series Sea Hunt (1958-1961).The best
known films by Jeff Bridges include Tron (1982), John Carpenter’s Starman
(1984), The Big Lebowski (1998), and Iron Man (2008). Bridges earned his
sixth Academy Award nomination for his role of Rooster Cogburn in the 2010
Coen brothers remake of True Grit.

LAND OF THE LOST

Land of the Lost
was a 1940s radio fantasy adventure, written and narrated by
pioneer radio commentator Isabel Manning Hewson (below). The show followed
the adventures of two children, Isabel and Billy, who traveled underwater with a
fish named Red Lantern. Hewson launched the series on Saturday October 9,
1943 on the ABC Blue network and aired till July 3, 1948. Art Carney was the
original voice of Red Lantern.

NEW TO TELEVISION ON THIS DAY IN 1964

The show Flipper, has been dubbed an “aquatic Lassie”, was first broadcast on NBC television from September 19, 1964, until April 15, 1967. The star of the show is a bottlenose dolphin, Flipper, and his human companions, Porter Ricks and his two
young sons Sandy and Bud. Porter is Chief Warden of a fictional marine preserve
and park in southern Florida.
