(FoxNews) – An extremely rare 1854 $5 gold coin could sell for millions of
dollars when it is auctioned this month.

The 1854-S half eagle coin was struck in April 1854 one day after the opening
of the San Francisco Mint, according to auction house Stack’s Bowers
Galleries.

“To help deal with the overwhelming amount of gold discovered in California
during the Gold Rush, the United States set up an official government Branch
Mint in San Francisco in April 1854, the first such facility west of the
Mississippi,” it said in a statement.

The coin, which is the first 1854-S half eagle minted, is one of just three
examples known to exist.

“It has been graded AU-58+, far finer than the EF-45 example that brought
$2.16 million in August 2018,” said Stack’s Bowers Galleries in a
statement.

The $5 coin will be auctioned on March 20 in Baltimore.

(FoxNews) – Sean Kiernan may get as much as $4 million for a piece of 
Hollywood history that his father, Bob, acquired for just $3,500 and
refused to sell to Steve McQueen, the actor who drove it in the 1968
action film "Bullitt."

When the classic-car insurer Hagerty sent car expert Kevin Marti to
authenticate the vehicle, he couldn’t believe his eyes, according to a 
New York Times report: “Ninety-eight percent of the original car is
there,” Marti told Hagerty. “It’s an incredible artifact.”

Since ‘Bullitt’s’ release, the 1968 Highland Green Mustang has become
one of the best-known vehicles shown on the big screen. McQueen
himself even tracked down Bob Kiernan in 1977 and wrote him a letter
asking to buy the muscle car back, according to the Times.

“I would like very much to keep it in the family, in its original condition
as it was used in the film, rather than have it restored, which is simply
personal with me," McQueen wrote in the missive detailed by the Times
which reported that Bob Kiernan never wrote McQueen back.

DALLAS (AP) — Cartoonist Jim Davis (above) is offering up more than 11,000 “Garfield” comic strips hand-drawn on paper in an auction that will stretch
into the coming years, with at least a couple of strips featuring the always-
hungry orange cat with a sardonic sense of humor available weekly.

Dallas-based Heritage Auctions began offering up the strips in August. The
auction house is selling two daily strips each week, along with longer
Sunday strips being offered during the large-scale auctions throughout
the year.

The strips span from the launch of “Garfield” in 1978 to 2011, when Davis
began drawing the strip digitally. He says he still draws it by hand but now
it’s with a stylus on a tablet instead of on paper with a pencil, pen and brush.

LAGUNA NIGUEL, Calif. (AP) — Babe Ruth has hit another one out of the
ballpark.

The bat used by the legendary baseball player to hit his 500th home run
was auctioned on Saturday for more than $1 million.

SCP Auctions didn’t identify the buyer. The auction was held in Laguna
Niguel, California.

DALLAS (AP) — A rare near-mint condition copy of the first Marvel
Comics comic book has sold at auction in Dallas for $1.26 million.

Heritage Auctions says the Marvel Comics No. 1 from 1939 sold
Thursday. Heritage says the buyer wished to remain anonymous.

Ed Jaster, senior vice president at Heritage, calls it "a historic copy
of a historic comic book." The issue features the first appearances
of characters such as the Human Torch, Ka-Zar, Angel and the Sub-
Mariner.

Heritage says the comic book was first purchased at a newsstand
by a Uniontown, Pennsylvania, mail carrier who made a practice of
buying the first issue of comic books and magazines. Jaster says
that since then, the issue has only changed owners a handful of
times.
