Rolling Stone magazine at the top of it’s “100 Greatest Singers
of All Time” list, as well as the ninth greatest artist of all time. She
has won 18 competitive Grammys and two honorary Grammys. She
has 20 number-one records on the Billboard R&B Singles Chart
and two number-one hits on the Billboard Hot 100.

BROADWAY PLAY OPENED ON THIS DAY IN 1958

The original Broadway production of Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, a play by Tennessee Williams,opened at the Morosco Theater in New York. It was directed Elia Kazan
and starred Barbara Bel Geddes as Maggie; Ben Gazzara as Brick; and Burl
Ives as Big Daddy. The play had 694 performances and won the Pulitzer
Prize for Drama in 1955.

Charley Frank Pride is one of the few Black country musicians to have
had considerable success in the largely Caucasian country music field
and the only one to be inducted into the Grand Ole Opry in 2010. His
greatest success came in the early-to mid-1970s, when he became
the best-selling performer for RCA Records since Elvis Presley. His
incredible legacy includes 36 #1 hit singles.

On October 4, 2000, Charley Pride was honored with the highest
country music award, he was inducted into the Country Music Hall
of Fame. He is still recording and touring extensively world wide.

Henry (Hank) King Ketcham
  (March 14, 1920 – June 1, 2001)

Hank Ketcham created the Dennis the Menace comic strip, which he both
wrote and drew from 1951 to 1994, when he retired from working with the
daily cartoon and took up painting full time in his studio. Ketcham, who
was born in Seattle, Washington, received the Reuben Award for the
strip, which continues in the hands of capable artists today.
