SINGER GORDON LIGHTFOOT IS 77 TODAY


Gordon Meredith Lightfoot, Jr. 

Canadian born singer-songwriter Lightfoot achieved international success in folk,
folk-rock, and country music, and has been credited for helping define the folk-pop
sound of the 1960s and 1970s. He has been referred to as Canada’s greatest songwriter and internationally as a folk-rock legend. He has won a total of sixteen
Juno Awards, among other honors and was inducted into the Canadian Music Hall
of Fame in 1986.

JOURNALIST BORN ON THIS DAY IN 1916


Walter Leland Cronkite, Jr. (November 4, 1916 – July 17, 2009)

Walter Cronkite was anchor of the CBS Evening News for over 30
years and won a Peabody Award and a TCA Career Achievement
Award. He was voted the Most Trusted Man in America and was
the only non-NASA recipient of a Moon-rock award.


Cronkite is well known for his departing catchphrase "And that’s the way it is”.

ACTOR BORN ON THIS DAY IN 1913


Burton Stephen "Burt" Lancaster
(November 2, 1913 – October 20, 1994)

Lancaster came to be regarded as one of the best motion picture actors
in history. He was nominated four times for Academy Awards and won once
for his work in Elmer Gantry in 1960. He also won a Golden Globe for that
performance
and BAFTA Awards. In 1999, the American Film Institute named
Lancaster 19th among the greatest male star of classic Hollywood cinema

MAUREEN O’HARA HAS DIED AT 95

Maureen O’Hara (born Maureen FitzSimons in Ireland)
(August 17, 1920 – October 24, 2015)

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. (AP) –  Maureen O’Hara, the flame-haired Irish movie
star who appeared in classics ranging from the grim "How Green Was My
Valley" (1941) to the uplifting "Miracle on 34th Street" (1947) and bantered
unforgettably with John Wayne in several films has passed.

According to her longtime manager, Johnny Nicoletti, O’Hara died in her sleep
at her home in Boise, Idaho.
