SINGLE RELEASED ON THIS DAY IN 1965

The song “Barbara Ann” peaked at #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #1
in Cash Box and Record World.  It also topped the charts in Germany, 
Switzerland and Norway. It was The Beach Boys’ biggest hit in Italy,
reaching the #4 position.

SINGLE RECORDED ON THIS DAY IN 1958

"Charlie Brown" by The Coaster went to #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles
charts, and was the first of three top-ten hits for the Coasters that year. It is
best known for the phrase, "Why’s everybody always pickin’ on me?" King
Curtis
plays the tenor saxophone during the instrumental and the fade out
of the record.

SINGLE RELEASED ON THIS DAY IN 1966


"Mellow Yellow"
is a song written and recorded by Scottish singer/songwriter
Donovan. It reached No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100. The song was rumored
to be about smoking dried banana skins, which, at the time, was believed to
be a hallucinogenic drug, though this aspect of bananas has since been
debunked.


Donovan Philips Leitch turned 69 May 10.

the Billboard Top 100 in 1957. It was ranked #25 on Billboard magazine’s
Top Hot 100 songs of 1957. The records A-side, "I’m Walkin’", reached
#4 on the Billboard chart and #10 on the
R&B chart.
