ONE OF TV’S BEST SHOWS BEGAN ON THIS DAY IN 1950

burns and allen show

When The George Burns and Gracie Allen Show, aka The Burns and
Allen Show
, began on CBS television Thursday October 12, 1950, it
was an immediate success. The show was originally live before a studio
audience.  Burns realized it would be more efficient to do the series on
film (beginning in the fall of 1952); the half-hour episodes could then
be syndicated. With 291 episodes, the show had a long network run
to September 22, 1958 and continued in syndicated reruns for years.

THE M*A*S*H HOT DOG CONNECTION!

packos-map

TOLEDO, Ohio (AP) — An Ohio judge’s decision means a hot dog chain that
earned a place in pop culture on the TV series “M.A.S.H.” will stay in the family.

The family feud over ownership of Tony Packo’s played out in a Toledo courtroom Tuesday.

A county judge gave control of the company to a private restaurant group that
plans to put Tony Packo Jr. and his son back in charge of the chain.

The restaurant was made famous 35 years ago after being mentioned on six
episodes of “M.A.S.H.” during the show’s run in the 1970s and ’80s. The dogs
were favorites of cross-dressing Corporal Max Klinger on the show.

(Note: Klinger is played by real-life Toledo, Ohio native Jamie Farr, shown below.)

A dispute between descendants of the restaurant’s namesake erupted this
summer, causing both sides to make bids to take over the company thats
been a family tradition since 1932.
