                                  (May 27, 1837 – August 2, 1876)

Hickok was a folk hero of the Old West because of his expertise as a
gunfighter and scout along with his reputation as a lawman.

He was born and raised on a farm in Illinois and headed west at the age
age of 18 as a fugitive from the law. He first worked as a stagecoach
driver, before becoming a lawman in the frontier territories of Kansas
and Nebraska.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY SUPERMAN, 75 TODAY

FIRST SUPERMAN COMIC

Action Comics, published on April 18, 1938 (cover-dated June),
by National Allied Publications, a corporate predecessor of
DC
Comics
, is considered to be the first true superhero comic; and
though today Action Comics is a monthly devoted to Superman,
it began, like many early comics, as an
anthology.

As of 2011, this is the only comic to have sold for more than $2
million for a single original copy. It is considered to be the most
valuable comic book of all time.

THE FIRST TRUE COMIC BOOK!

FamousFunnies1933

In 1933, salesperson
Maxwell Gaines and sales manager Harry
I. Wildenberg of Eastern Color Printing collaborated with Dell
to publish the 36-page one-shot Famous Funnies: A Carnival of
Comics
, considered by historians to be the first true American
comic book.
It was a reprinting of earlier newspaper comic strips,
thus came the term comic book. These publications established
the story telling and format that is still used today.
