"The Eveready Hour" became radio’s first commercially sponsored network variety
program. The National Carbon Company was the first sponsor of the show which 
originated from WEAF Radio in New York.

AR-812 radio

The AR-812, manufactured in 1924, was the first commercial superhet.

The Adventures of Superman was a long-running radio serial that originally
aired on the Mutual network from 1940 to 1949. The series, adapted from
the DC Comics character, shifted to ABC-Radio on October 29, 1949 and
continued until March 1, 1951. The 15-minute programs were sponsored
by Kellogg’s Pep.

Enotris Johnson and Richard Penniman (known as "Little Richard"). It
was originally called “The Thing”.

The single reached number one on the Billboard rhythm and blues chart,
staying at the top for six of 19 weeks, while peaking at number six on the
pop chart. It received the Cash Box Triple Crown Award in 1956.

The song became one of Little Richard’s best-known hits and is #56 on
Rolling Stones list of The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.

FIFTY YEARS AGO ON THIS DAY IN 1964

(AP) – The Beatles made their first appearance on "The Ed Sullivan Show," America’s
must-see weekly variety show, on Sunday, Feb. 9, 1964. And officially kicked off
Beatlemania on this side of the pond.

More than 70 million viewers were tuned to the program, airing live from the studio
in Manhattan which now houses the “Late Show With David Letterman.”
