PLAYED FOR FIRST TIME ON THIS DAY IN 1929

Guy Lombardo and his Royal Canadians played "Auld Lang Syne" as a New
Year’s Eve song for the first time at the "Roosevelt Grill" in the Roosevelt Hotel
in New York City. The song is a Scots poem written by Robert Burns in 1788,
set to the tune of a traditional folk song.

In 1946, Mr. and Mrs. North received the first Best Radio Drama
Edgar Award from the Mystery Writers of America. Though the
program aired one time in 1941, it began a continuous original 
run on CBS from December 30, 1942 through December 1946.

The radio show Mr. and Mrs. North was based on a series of 
26 novels written by the husband-wife team of Frances and 
Richard Lockridge starting in 1940 and continuing until the 
the death of Frances in 1963.

Ding Dong School, known as "the nursery school of the air", was a half-hour
children’s television show which began November 24, 1952 on WNBQ-TV
(now WMAQ-TV) in Chicago, Illinois a few months before its four-year run
on NBC.

A precursor to both Sesame Street and Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood, the
show was hosted live by “Miss Frances" (above). At one point it was the most
popular TV series aimed at preschoolers.
