Annelies Marie Frank (12 June 1929 – c. 12 March 1945)

Ann Frank was Jewish Holocaust victim whose diary describes
her family’s evasion of the Nazis during the World War II-era
German Occupation of the Netherlands. Her Diary of a Young
Girl (The Diary of Anne Frank) gives a full account of her life in
hiding from June 1942 through early August 1944.

Before Fame

She was born in Frankfurt, Germany, and was raised primarily
in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. Ann received a blank book for
her thirteenth birthday that she soon transformed into her now-
famous diary. Ann Frank died of typhus in the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp.

Taken from outside the reconstruction of a barracks, the photo shows a barbed wirefence, and beyond it a grassy area with a small timber hut

to September 1944.

A Memorial for Margot and Anne Frank shows a Star of David and the full names, birthdates, and year of death of each of the sisters, in white lettering on a large black stone. The stone sits alone in a grassy field, and the ground beneath the stone is covered with floral tributes and photographs of Anne Frank

DIARIST CAPTURED ON THIS DAY IN 1944

OTD in History… August 4, 1944, Anne Frank and her family are ...

Acting on tip from a Dutch informer, the Nazi Gestapo captured 15-year-
old Jewish diarist
Anne Frank and her family in a sealed-off area of an
Amsterdam warehouse. The Franks had taken shelter there in 1942 out
of fear of deportation to a Nazi
concentration camp. They occupied the
small space with another Jewish
family and a single Jewish man, and
were aided by Christian friends, who brought  them food and supplies.

Anne spent much of her time in the so-called “secret annex”(below)
working on her diary. The diary survived the war, overlooked by the
Gestapo that discovered the hiding place.
