The Fat Man
, was a popular detective drama radio show based on characters
by Dashiell Hammett. The series starred J. Scott Smart an accomplished actor
of stage, screen, and radio as well as a musician and music historian.The show premiered on the ABC Radio Network on Monday, January 21, 1946 and ran
until 1951. It was produced by E.J. ("Mannie") Rosenberg, directed by Clark
Andrews, and Charles Powers. Rosenberg was also the creator of Big Town.

Ray Milland (Alfred Reginald Jones) January 3, 1907–10 March 10, 1986

Milland’s screen career ran from 1929 to 1985. He is best remembered for his
Academy Award–winning portrayal of an alcoholic writer in The Lost Weekend
(1945), He was the first Welsh actor to win an Oscar and gave the shortest
acceptance speech of any Oscar winner. Milland was also the leading man
opposite a corrupt John Wayne in Reap the Wild Wind (1942), and played
the murder-plotting husband in Dial M for Murder (1954),

DRAMA SERIES LEFT THE AIR ON THIS DAY IN 1954

"The Shadow" premiered on the CBS radio network on July 31, 1930 as
the narrator for a radio program called “Detective Story Hour” based on a
magazine of the same name.The radio drama series temporarily moved to 
NBC radio in October 1932. After returning to CBS it disappeared from the 
airwaves on March 27, 1935 and later began airing over the new Mutual
Broadcasting System as a half-hour series called “The Shadow” on
Sunday evenings and continued there until the final episode on
December 26, 1954.

Orson%20Welles

A 22-year-old Orson Welles was the voice of The Shadow
(Lamont Cranston) from September 1937 to October 1938.
