PRESIDENT LAID TO REST ON THIS DAY IN 1963

Representatives from over 90 countries attended the state funeral
on Monday, November 25, 1963. Following a Mass at St. Matthew’s
Cathedral, president John F. Kennedy was laid to rest at Arlington
National Cemetery in Virginia.

On the Sunday (Nov. 24th) after the assassination, President Kennedy’s coffin
was carried on a horse-drawn caisson to the U.S. Capitol to lie in state. During
the day and night, hundreds of thousands lined up to view the guarded casket.
