Stephen King spent his childhood pouring over horror books,
comic books, and films, and he especially loved Tales from the
Crypt
and Dracula. He graduated from the University of Maine
in 1970 with a Bachelor’s degree in English.

In his youth, Bill Murry worked as a golf caddy to fund his
high school education. He began taking pre-med courses
at Regis University in Denver, Colorado but dropped out.

TV SERIES 50th ANNIVERSARY TODAY


Dark Shadows
is a gothic soap opera that originally aired weekdays on 
the ABC television network, from June 27, 1966, to April 2, 1971. The
series depicted the lives of the Collins family of Collinsport, Maine.

The show became extremely popular when vampire Barnabas Collins,
played by Canadian actor Jonathan Frid, appeared a year into its run.

Dark Shadows featured an array of characters including ghosts, witches,
werewolves, zombies, and warlocks. Time travel and a parallel universe 
were also featured. Some characters were played by more than one actor.

LINDA BLAIR IS 57 TODAY


Linda Denise Blair was born in St. Louis, Missouri.

Blair played the possessed Regan in The Exorcist (1973). The role earned
her a Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actress as well as an Academy
Award nomination. In 1977, she reprised her role in Exorcist II: The Heretic. She
became a child model at age six. In 1970, at the age of ten, she made her big
screen debut in The Way We Live Now (1970).

MOVIE RELEASED ON THIS DAY IN 1954

The Technicolor adventure film 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea was the first
science fiction film shot in CinemaScope. The film was personally produced
by Walt Disney through Walt Disney Productions. It was also the first feature-
length Disney film to be distributed by Buena Vista Distribution.

BORIS KARLOFF ~ THE DISC JOCKEY



Boris Karloff hosted a weekly children’s radio program over New York’s
WNEW during the early 1950s. He played children’s music and read stories
and riddles. The program,“Karloff’s Treasure Chest”, also became popular
with adults.
