GOLDIE HAWN IS 70 TODAY



Goldie Jeanne Hawn was born in Washington, D.C.

The former star of Rowan & Martin’s Laugh-In (NBC, 1968-1973) 
and the film The Sugarland Express (1974) taught at and ran a
ballet school before fame. Hawn starred in Cactus Flower, for
which she won the 1969 Academy Award for Best Supporting
Actress
.


Goldie Hawn has been with actor Kurt Russell for over 30 years.

NUMBER-ONE ON THIS DAY IN 1971

"Theme from Shaft," written and recorded by Isaac Hayes, is the
soul and funk-styled theme song to the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer film,
Shaft.
The song was well received by adult audiences, reaching
number six on Billboard’s Easy Listening chart.

The following year, "Theme from Shaft" won the Academy Award
for Best Original
Song
with Hayes becoming the first African
American
to win that honor, or any Academy Award in a non-
acting category, as well as the first recipient of the award to
both write and perform the winning song.

FILM RELEASED ON THIS DAY IN 1959

 

The epic historical drama film Ben-Hur was directed by William Wyler,
produced by Sam Zimbalist for Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer and stars Charlton
Heston
, Stephen Boyd, Jack Hawkins, Hugh Griffith and Haya Harareet. It
is a remake of the 1925 silent film with the same name. The movie had the
largest budget ($15.175 million) as well as the largest sets built of any film
produced at the time.

ACTRESS LINDA EVANS IS 73 TODAY

 



Linda Evans (Born Linda Evenstad in
Hartford, Connecticut)

Evans played Krystle Carrington on the ABC television series Dynasty (1981-1989) 
and appeared in the 1965 film Beach Blanket Bingo. She gained fame for playing
Audra Barkley in The Big Valley on ABC-TV from 1965-1969.
