FIRST PG-13 FILM OPENED ON THIS DAY

On August 10, 1984, the action thriller Red Dawn, starring
Patrick Swayze, opened in theaters as the first movie to be
released with a PG-13 rating. The Motion Picture Association
of America (MPAA), which oversees the movie rating system,
had announced the new PG-13 category in July of that same
year.

Robert Swan Dies: 'Hoosiers' & 'The Babe' Actor Was 78

Robert Swan, the veteran character actor who appeared in key
roles in the notable sports films Hoosiers, Rudy and The Babe
died Wednesday after a long battle with cancer at his home in
Rolling Prairie, Indiana.

Swan also portrayed a Canadian Mountie in Brian De Palma’s
The Untouchables (1987) and a bloodied deputy in Oliver
Stone’s Natural Born Killers (1994) and was other lawmen in
Who’s That Girl (1987) and Mo’ Money (1992).

LOS ANGELES (AP) — William Friedkin, the Oscar winning
director who became a top filmmaker in his 30s with the
gripping “The French Connection” and the horrifying “The
Exorcist” and struggled in the following decades to match
his early success has died. He was 87.

Friedkin died from heart failure and pneumonia at his home
in
Bel Air, Los Angeles.
