John Herschel Glenn Jr. (July 18, 1921 – December 8, 2016)
COLUMBUS, Ohio (FOXNEWS) — John Glenn, arguably Ohio’s most accomplished
and decorated civilian, has died.
The former astronaut, Ohio Senator, and veteran, passed away at the Ohio State
James Cancer Hospital surrounded by his loved ones.
Glenn was admitted there more than a week before he died.
The Cambridge native served in more than100 combat missions over the Pacific
as a Navy fighter pilot during his service in World War II and the Korean War.
Glenn was then recruited to the newly formed NASA in 1958, where he became
the first American to orbit the Earth on February 20, 1962. He remained a part
of the space program until he retired as a Colonel in 1965.
