FORMER ASTRONAUT IS DEAD AT 85

"Ed" Mitchell (September 17, 1930 – February 4, 2016)

MIAMI (AP) — Apollo 14 astronaut Edgar Mitchell, who became the sixth
man on the moon when he and Alan Shepard helped NASA recover from
Apollo 13’s “successful failure”, has died in Florida.

His his daughter, Kimberly Mitchell, said he died Thursday night at a West
Palm Beach hospice after a short illness. Mitchell’s passing coincides with
the 45th anniversary of the Apollo 14 mission from Jan. 31-Feb. 9, 1971.

VOICE ACTOR HAS DIED AT 63


Joseph Francis "Joe" Alaskey III (April 17, 1952 – February 3, 2016)

(FOXNews) – Joe Alaskey, best known for providing the iconic voices of "Looney
Tunes" legends Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Tweety, Sylvester and Marvin the
Martian,died Wednesday after a battle with cancer.

Alaskey’s spokesperson, K.P. Lynne, shared the news on the actor’s Facebook
fan
page
, writing in part, "Never doubt that Joe loved each and every one of
you. Your comments and posts always made his day and brought joy to his heart
and life."

Alaskey was one of the most celebrated successors of legendary voice actor Mel
Blanc, who originated the voices of many of Warner Bros.’ beloved cartoon

BAND FOUNDER IS DEAD AT 74


Maurice White (December 19, 1941 – February 3, 2016)

NEW YORK (AP) – Earth, Wind & Fire founder Maurice 
White, whose horn-driven band sold more than 90 million
albums and made hits like "September," ”Shining Star"
and "Boogie Wonderland," died Wednesday at his home
in Los Angeles.

White, who was 74, suffered from Parkinson’s Disease
and had retreated from the public even as the band he
founded kept performing.

GROUNDHOG DAY UPDATE:

PUNXSUTAWNEY, Pa. (AP) — The handlers of Pennsylvania’s
most famous groundhog, Punxsutawney Phil, say the furry rodent
has failed to see his shadow, meaning means he’s "predicted" an
early spring
.

Members of the top hat-wearing Inner Circle announced the "forecast"
at sunrise, just before 7:30 a.m. (ET) Tuesday.

ANOTHER AIRPLANE SINGER HAS DIED AT 74

Signe Toly Anderson (September 15, 1941 – January 28, 2016), born
in Seattle and raised in Portland, Oregon after her parents divorced.

Beaverton, Oregon  (AP) – Signe Toly Anderson, a vocalist and original member
of the Jefferson Airplane who left the band after its first record and was replaced
by Grace Slick, has died.

Anderson died Thursday at her home in Beaverton, Oregon, according to her
daughter, Onateska Ladybug Sherwood. Anderson had been suffering from
chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Signe Anderson, who survived cancer
in her 30s, died on the same day that another Airplane member, Paul Kantner,
died.
