LOCAL TV LEGEND HAS DIED AT 87

James H. Allen
(May 15, 1928 – July 28 2015)

Allen hosted shows on KOIN, KPTV, and KATU as Rusty Nails in
Portland, Oregon from 1957 to 1972. In 1998 he wrote an
autobiographical book called "Send in the clowns." His show 
on KPTV was the second-longest running children’s program 
in Portland, second only to Ramblin’ Rod Anders.
 
A memorial service will be held at Beaverton Foursquare Church,
13565 S.W. Walker Road in Beaverton on Aug. 13 at 1 p.m. In
lieu of flowers, his family asks that donations be made to the
Oregon Diabetes Assn. or Legacy Hospice Portland.

NORTHWEST AUTHOR DIES AT 83

Ann Rule
(Stackhouse(October 22, 1931 – July 26, 2015)

Rule was an true crime author of The Stranger Beside Me, about
serial killer and Rule’s co-worker Ted Bundy. She was also known
for her book Small Sacrifices, about Oregon child murderer Diane
Downs
. Many of Rule’s books centered on murder cases that
occurred in her adopted home state of Washington and the
Pacific Northwest. The popular author died on Sunday, only a
few days after an emergency room visit and subsequent cardiac
arrest. She had been moved to hospice care one day before her
death.

THEODORE BIKEL HAS DIED AT 91

Theodore Meir Bikel (May 2, 1924 – July 21, 2015)

Bikel was a widely recognized recorded folksinger and guitarist. In 1969
he began acting and singing on stage as Tevye in the musical Fiddler
on the Roof
, a role he performed more often than any other actor to
date. The play won nine Tony Awards and was the longest-running
musical in Broadway history. He died at UCLA Medical Center in Los
Angeles as a result of natural causes, according to publicist Harlan
Boll.

ACTOR FOUND DEAD AT 79

Alex Rocco (Alexander Federico Petricone)
(February 29, 1936 – July 18, 2015)

Character actor Alex Rocco, who played casino owner Moe Greene in
The Godfather” (1972) and appeared in dozens of other movies and
TV shows, died Saturday of cancer in Studio City, Calif.

Rocco most recently was one of the stars of the Starz cable channel’s
crime-drama series, Magic City. He was scheduled to star as Mr. Marino
in the Horror thriller film The Other.

ROCK GROUPS FRONTMAN DIES AT 81

David Somerville, also called “Diamond” Dave Somerville

(October 2, 1933 – July 14, 2015)



Dave Somerville, founder and lead singer of the popular 1950s rock-n-
roll band The Diamonds, died of cancer last week in Santa Barbara,
California
. 

The Diamonds have been honored and inducted into The Vocal Group
Hall of Fame, The Doo Wop Hall of Fame, The Rockabilly Hall of Fame
and are recipients of Canada’s prestigious Juno Award.
