Jonathan Vincent Voight will be 75 in December

(AP) – It was Jon Voight’s portrayal of male prostitute Joe Buck in the
1969 film "Midnight Cowboy" that put him on his path to becoming an
acting legend. Now he says he was paid a pittance for the part.

Voight says that he wanted the role so badly he told his agent, "I said,
‘Tell them I’ll do this part for nothing.’" The actor says to his surprise,
"they took me at my word and they gave me minimum for ‘Midnight
Cowboy.’"

Voight spoke Wednesday as he was promoting his film "Getaway"
co-starring Ethan Hawke and Selena Gomez that opens Aug. 30
and "Ray Donovan," the Showtime series he appears in opposite
Liev Schreiber.

The Oscar- and Emmy-winning actor says the studio United Artists
"even sent me a $14.73 coffee shop charge," for meals his last day
of shooting for the film in Texas.

ONE OF THE LAST OF ITS KIND IN OREGON

99w-40
The 99W Drive-In outside Portland, Oregon in Newberg has been a family run business for three generations.

The 99W Drive-In Theatre opened originally in 1953.  It is one of only four drive-ins
left in operation in Oregon and the last one in the Portland area. The state once had
a total of 73.

By December 31, the majority of American drive-in theaters must upgrade to digital
projectors or face closure. The switch to the new system costs roughly $80,000.

CELEBRATED JAZZ PIANIST IS DEAD AT 95

MARIAN MCPORTLAND YNG

   Margaret Marian McPartland, (March 20, 1918 – August 20, 2013)

NEW YORK (AP) – Marian McPartland, a renowned jazz pianist and host
of the National Public Radio show "Piano Jazz," died of natural causes
Tuesday night at her Port Washington home on Long Island.

Over a career that spanned more than six decades, McPartland became
a fixture in the jazz world as a talented musician and well-loved radio
personality.

Born Margaret Marian Turner in England, she began playing classical
piano at the age of 3. At 17, she was accepted to the Guildhall School
of Music. She left in her third year to play piano with a touring vaudeville
act, to the chagrin of her parents, who she said were "horrified," and a
professor who called popular music "rubbish."

During World War II, while playing for Allied troops with the USO and its
British equivalent, she met her husband, Jimmy McPartland. He died in
1991.
