Jane Powell (born Suzanne Lorraine Burce in Portland, Oregon) 
is a singer, dancer and actress who rose to fame in the mid-
1940s with roles in various Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer musicals.

In 1905, when Portland Mayor Harry Lane addressed a crowd at
the Lewis and Clark Exposition, one memorable phrase emerged
from his otherwise-forgotten speech. Lane, who served as mayor
from 1905 to 1909, told the audience that Portland needed an
annual "festival of roses."

Two years later, Portland hosted its first Rose Festival, and in
1908 local businessmen, including C.E.S. Wood, organized the
Portland Rose Festival as a nonprofit civic organization (now
called the Portland Rose Festival Foundation) to plan and fund
the annual event.

The Rosarians made their first appearance at the 1912 Rose Festival, wearing their signature white wool suits and straw
hats.

Airlines Flight 173. He said he tried to
aim the plane at a dark spot.

Will Vinton (November 17, 1947 – October 4, 2018)

(Portland, Oregon) – Will Vinton, the creator of the beloved Claymation
characters of the 1980s, like the California Raisins and the Domino’s
Pizza Noid, has died. His family announced his death in a Facebook
post Thursday afternoon. They said he battled multiple myeloma, a
cancer in white blood cells, for 12 years. Vinton won an Oscar for his
work and several Emmy Awards and Clio Awards for his studio’s work.
