On May 30, 1922, President Warren G. Harding became he first
president to have his voice transmitted by radio while addressing
a crowd at the dedication of the Lincoln Memorial.

The broadcast heralded a revolutionary shift in how presidents addressed the American public. It was not until three years later, however, that a president, Calvin Coolidge, would deliver a radio-
specific address.

In 1920, radio station KDKA in Pittsburgh, PA announced that
Harding was the official winner of that year’s presidential election. 

In 1923, he recorded a speech on an early “phonograph” that
recorded and played back sound on wax discs. Harding was also
the first president to own a radio and was the first to have one
installed in the White House.

John Fitzgerald Kennedy (May 29, 1917 – November 22, 1963)

(FOX NEWS) – An auction of the personal belongings of
President Abraham Lincoln featured one rare item that
caught the attention of many.

The Associated Press reported a pair of gloves that were
in Lincoln’s pocket at Ford’s Theatre the night he was
shot drew in the largest bid. 

The bloodstained gloves are made out of leather and
went for $1.52 million, including a buyer’s premium fee.

Of the 144 items up for auction by Freeman’s/Hindman in
Chicago, 136 were sold.

The auction was held to fund payments on a loan from
20 years ago that was taken out by the Lincoln Presidential
Foundation.

Franklin Roosevelt and Winston Churchill.

On May 19, 1943, British Prime Minister Winston Churchill
and U.S. President Franklin Roosevelt plot the cross-Channel
landing that would become D-Day—May 1, 1944.

That date would prove a bit premature, as bad weather
became a factor.

The D-Day invasion ended up taking place on June 6, 1944.

Some six weeks after the United States formally entered
the First World War, the U.S Congress passed the Selective
Service Act on May 18, 1917, giving the U.S. president the
power to draft soldiers.

By the end of World War I in November 1918, some 24 million
men had registered under the Selective Service Act. Of the
almost 4.8 million Americans who eventually served in the
war, some 2.8 million had been drafted.
