Blondie was a radio situation comedy adapted from the long-run comic strip by
Chic Young. The radio program also had a long run on several networks from
July 3, 1939 to 1950. It was a summer replacement for The Eddie Cantor Show,
but Cantor did not return in the fall, so the shows sponsor, R.J. Reynolds’ Camel Cigarettes chose to keep Blondie on the air Mondays at 7:30pm. The program
starred Arthur Lake and Penny Singleton (above).

ABBOTT & COSTELLO RADIO DEBUT ON THIS DATE IN 1940
The comedy team of Bud Abbott and Lou Costello (shown above) were
a summer replacement on radio for Fred Allen. They launched their own
weekly show October 8, 1942, sponsored by Camel cigarettes.The Abbott
and Costello Show mixed comedy with musical interludes by vocalists such
as Connie Haines and the Les Baxter Singers.

The radio program Vic and Sade was regularly broadcast on NBC from 1932 to
1944, then intermittently until 1946, and was briefly adapted to television in 1949
and again in 1957. During its 14-year run on radio, Vic and Sade became one of
the most popular series of its kind, earning critical and popular success,according
to Time, Vic and Sade had 7,000,000 devoted listeners in 1943.
For the majority of its run on the air, Vic and Sade was heard in episodes of 15-
minutes each without a continuing storyline. The central characters, known as
"radio’s home folks," were accountant Victor Rodney Gook (Art Van Harvey), his
wife Sade (Bernadine Flynn) and their adopted son Rush (Bill Idelson).The three
lived on Virginia Avenue in "the small house halfway up in the next block."
‘’QUIZ KIDS’’ DEBUTED ON THIS DATE IN 1940
Quiz Kids, was a popular radio-TV series of the 1940s and 1950s, was created
by Chicago public relations and advertising man Louis G. Cowan. Originally
sponsored by Alka-Sletzer, the series was first broadcast on NBC from Chicago,
June 28, 1940, airing as a summer replacement for Alec Templeton Time. The
show continued on radio for the next 13 years.
