RADIO’S EARLY DAY’S

‘The Lone Ranger’ premiered January 30,1933 on WXYZ radio in Detroit. It then moved to the Mutual Broadcasting System and finally to NBC’s Blue Network, which became ABC. The last episode was  broadcast on September 3, 1954. The lead role was played by several actor’s, the most remembered was the shows announcer for a few years, Brace Beemer, pictured above. He played the role till the final show. Beemer
also protrayed “Sergeant Preston Of The Yukon” for a brief time.

WHEEL OF FORTUNE ANNOUNCER HAS DIED

Wheel of Fortune announcer…Charlie O’Donnell died
late Sunday at his home in Los Angeles. The cause of
death is unclear at this time. Charlie was well known
as a D.J. at  radio station KRLA in Los Angeles. He
was 78-years-old.

HALLOWEEN GREETINGS FROM ORSON WELLS

The CBS radio program  “Mercury Theatre On The Air” performed an adaptation of the H.G. wells novel  “The War Of TheWorld’s” on this  date in 1938. The live drama was directed by Orson Wells and employed  fictitious news reports. The program was taken seriously by some listners who thought it’s portrayal of a Martian invasion was true.
