SHOW DEBUT ON THIS DAY IN 1946

Heart’s Desire was a giveaway contest program on the Mutual
Broadcasting System,  hosted by Ben Alexander. The show aired
for 30-minutes, five days a week. It was initially a self-supporting 
program of MBS, later Phillip Morris & Company Limited began to
sponsor half of the show. It was on the air for approximately two
years.

Harold (Hal) Peary ( born José Pereira de Faria in California) 
(July 25, 1908 – March 30, 1985)

The Great Gildersleeve is a radio situation comedy broadcast from August 
31, 1941, to March 21, 1957. Initially written by Leonard Lewis Levinson, it 
was one of broadcast history’s earliest spin-off programs. The series was
built around the character Throckmorton P. Gildersleeve, a regular on the
radio situation comedy Fibber McGee and Molly. The original Gildersleeve
was played by Hal Peary (above).

RADIO SERIES BEGAN ON THIS DAY IN 1949

The series “Father  Knows Best” began on NBC Radio. It starred Robert Young 
(above) as the General Insurance agent Jim Anderson. His wife Margaret was
first portrayed by June Whitley and later by Jean Vander Pyl. The Anderson
children were Betty (Rhonda Williams), Bud (Ted Donaldson), and Kathy
(Norma Jean Nillson). The series ran until March 25, 1954. It made the
switch to television later that year.

Eugene Curran "Gene" Kelly was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. 
(August 23, 1912 – February 2, 1996)

Gene Kelly choreographed his own dance routines in such hit 1940s and ’50s
films as Singin’ in the Rain, Anchors Aweigh, An American in Paris and On the
Town.
He was ranked 15th on the American Film Institute’s list of the Greatest
Male Stars of All Time in 1999.

Rose Marie Mazetta was born in New York City, New York.

Marie is best known for playing writer Sally Rogers on the CBS 
television series The Dick Van Dyke Show from 1961 to 1966,
she also played Myrna Gibbons on The Doris Day Show from
1969 to 1971 on CBS. She began her career in entertainment
as a child singer, performing under the name Baby Rose Marie.
