Kitty Keene, Inc.
was a 15-minute radio soap about a female
private detective who was a former Ziegfeld Follies’ showgirl. It
first aired on CBS and then switched to Mutual. Kitty was played
by Beverley Younger, Gail Henshaw and Fran Carlon. The series
ran till April 25, 1941 and was sponsored by Procter and Gamble.

PROGRAM DEBUTED ON THIS DAY IN 1935

Popeye The Sailor radio program was broadcast over three different
networks by two sponsors from 1935 to 1938. Wheatena hot cereal
first sponsored the show thru March 28, 1936 on the NBC Red
Network on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday nights.

The show starred Detmar Poppen as Popeye along with most of the
major supporting characters,Olive Oyl, Olive Lamoy, Wimpy, Charles
Lawrence,Bluto, Jackson Beck,and Swee’Pea, Mae Questel.

Wheatena reportedly paid King Features Syndicate $1,200 per week
for the rights to the sailor.

was carried on 1,200 radio stations, 400 Armed Forces

stations and 300 newspapers, reaching as many as 24 million
people a week. He was best remembered for his famous The Rest of
the
Story
segments. Harvey appeared on a Gallup pole for the most
admired men in America.

The last original episode of The Lone Ranger was broadcast September 3, 1954
and transcribed repeats of the 1952–53 episodes continued to be aired on ABC
until June 24, 1955. The cowboy hero first  appeared in January of 1933 in a
radio show aired over WXYZ in Detroit, Michigan. The title character was played
by George Seaton, Earle Graser, and Brace Beemer.

CBS. It was Bing’s solo debut on network radio and featured announcer
Ken Carpenter and the Buddy Cole Trio with Rosemary Clooney. Iconic 
guests included Fred Astaire,Tallulah Bankhead, and Johnny Mercer.
