The song "Johnny B. Goode" was written and first recorded by Chuck Berry. It
was a major hit among both black and white audiences, peaking at number 2
on Billboard magazine’s Hot R&B Sides chart and number 8 on its Hot 100
chart. It is credited as "the first rock & roll hit about rock & roll stardom” and
is also ranked seventh on Rolling Stone‘s list of the "500 Greatest Songs of
All Tim”.

SINGLE RELEASED ON THIS DAY IN 1964

The song “Can’t Buy Me Love” was the third of seven songs by the Beatles
to hit #1 in a one-year period, an all-time record, and spent five consecutive
weeks at the top. Rolling Stone ranked "Can’t Buy Me Love" at No. 295 on
their list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.

SINGLE RELEASED ON THIS DAY IN 1963

The single “Surfin’ U.S.A.” peaked at number two in the chart of the Music
Vendor
trade paper (within a year renamed Record World) and at number
three on the Billboard and Cash Box charts.

Billboard ranked song the number 2 song of 1963. It has since become 
an example of the California Sound. It is also part of the The Rock and
Roll Hall of
Fame’s 500 Songs that Shaped Rock and Roll
list.

Buddy Holly is a studio album by Buddy Holly. It was recorded April 8,
1957 to January 26, 1958 in Clovis, New Mexico and New York City. It
was released by Coral Records. The album collects Holly’s four hit
singles released on the Coral label; "Words of Love", "Peggy Sue",
"I’m Gonna Love You Too", and "Rave On!". The backing group was
Buddy Holly’s current band, the Crickets. This was Buddy’s first official
solo album.

The song Venus became Frankie Avalon’s first number-one hit on the
Billboard Hot 100 chart, where it spent five weeks atop the survey. The
song also reached number ten on the R&B chart.
