SINGLE RELEASED ON THIS DAY IN 1964

The song "I Get Around" was written by Brian Wilson and Mike Love for
the rock band the Beach Boys and was released as a single in May 1964
with "Don’t Worry Baby" as its B-side. It became the group’s first number- 
one charting song in the United States. In 2016, the song was inducted
into the Grammy Hall of Fame.

RECORD RECORDED ON THIS DAY IN 1956

Capitol Records
, who were looking for a young singer to rival Elvis Presley,
invited Gene Vincent to record the song “Be-Bop-A-Lula” at Owen Bradley‘s
studio in Nashville, Tennessee. It was released in June 1956 and immediately
sold well. The song was successful on three singles charts: it peaked at #7
on the Billboard pop music chart, #8 on the R&B chart, and also made the
top ten on the C&W Best Seller chart peaking at #5. In April 1957, Capitol
announced that over 2 million copies of the record had been sold to date.

The single “Personality” reached #2 for three weeks on the Billboard Hot
100
and became one of Lloyd Price’s most popular crossover hits. It was
also a #1 R&B hit, maintaining that top spot for four weeks. Billboard
ranked it as the No. 3 song for 1959.

FIRST RECORD DEBUT ON THIS DAY IN 1957

The song "A Teenager’s Romance" is a song written by David Gillam and
performed by Ricky Nelson. It reached #2 on the Billboard Top 100 in 1957
and was ranked #25 on Billboard magazine’s Top Hot 100 songs of the same 
year. The records A-side, "I’m Walkin’", reached #4 on the Billboard chart  
and #10 on the R&B chart.

Bartholomew
.  released by Imperial Records. I became a hit, eventually
selling a million copies. It reached number 1 on the Billboard R&B chart
and number 10 on the pop chart. The song is ranked number 438 on
Rolling Stone magazine’s list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.
