The recording reached #2 on the chart that year. The Ink Spots’ version of the
song was also used as the opening theme for the first game of the Fallout
franchise.

BEST SELLER ON THIS DAY IN 1958


   Shelby F. "Sheb" Wooley (April 10, 1921 – September 16, 2003)

The novelty song "The Purple People Eater" was in the #1 spot until July
14. Wooley finished composing it within an hour.

RECORD RELEASED ON THIS DAY IN 1965

 

"(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction" was written by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards and produced by Andrew Loog Oldham. Richards’ three-note guitar riff was intended
to be replaced by horns. The song is considered by most critics to be one of the
all-time greatest rock songs ever recorded. In 2004, Rolling Stone magazine
placed "Satisfaction" in the second spot on its list of "The 500 Greatest Songs
of All
Time", while in 2006 it was added to the Library of Congress National
Recording
Registry.
