heartbreak-hotel

On March 3, 1956, “Heartbreak Hotel” entered the Billboard pop chart at
number 68, and the Country and Western chart at number nine. Within
two months, "Heartbreak Hotel" reached number one on both charts. It
also made the top five on the R&B chart, the first Presley single to chart
there. This resulted in the song becoming only the second single to reach
all three Billboard charts, after
Carl Perkins‘ "Blue Suede Shoes". It spent
a total of twenty-seven weeks in the top 100. By April, "Heartbreak Hotel”
became a million-seller.

RELEASED ON THIS DATE IN 1964

 Twist and Shout TheBeatles

John Lennon was suffering from a cold at the time “Twist and
Shout” was recorded and was drinking milk and sucking on
cough drops to soothe his throat. Producer George Martin,
feeling John’s voice would suffer from the performance,
had the band record the song last, with
only 15 minutes
of scheduled recording time left.
