CANCER TAKES FRANK ROBINSON AT AGE 83

Frank Robinson (August 31, 1935 – February 7, 2019)

Frank Robinson played in Major League Baseball for five teams from 1956 to
1976, and became the only player to win the
MLB Most Valuable Player Award
in both the
National League and American League. He won the Triple Crown,
was a member of two teams that won the
World Series (the 1966 and 1970
Baltimore Orioles), and amassed the fourth-most career home runs at the
time of his retirement (he is currently 10th). Robinson was elected to the
Baseball Hall of Fame in
1982.

Robinson was the first black manager in MLB history. He managed the
Cleveland Indians during the last two years of his playing career, with
a 186–189 record. He went on to manage the
San Francisco Giants, the
Baltimore Orioles, and the Montreal Expos/Washington Nationals. He
was the honorary President of the
American League. Robinson died in
Los Angeles as a result of bone cancer.

four-hundred ninety-nine career home runs. Then in the bottom of
the eighth inning, Bonds (above) hit a 2-0 fastball from reliever
Terry Adams into McCovey Cove giving the Giants a 3-2 lead, an
eventual victory, and a spectacular five-hundredth career home
run.

the most influential filmmakers of all-time, he directed over 50 feature
films.

Emmitt James Smith III

Dallas Cowboys running back Emmitt Smith retired with an NFL record 18,355
rushing yards. He was selected to eight Pro Bowls, led the NFL in rushing four
seasons, and won three Super Bowl Championships. After retirement, he won
the third season of Dancing with the Stars with Cheryl Burke. He rushed for
over 100 yards in 45 of the 49 games that he started in for his high school
football team. Emmitt Smith spent his last two NFL seasons with the Arizona
Cardinals and he was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2010.

Willie Howard Mays, Jr. was born in Westfield, Alabama.

Willie Mays is a Hall of Fame outfielder and 24-time All-Star known as the "Say
Hey Kid." He hit 660 home runs for the New York and San Francisco Giants
and the New York Mets and was a 2-time National League MVP as well as a
World Series Champion with the Giants in 1954.
