PLAYED FOR FIRST TIME ON THIS DAY IN 1929

Guy Lombardo and his Royal Canadians played "Auld Lang Syne" as a New
Year’s Eve song for the first time at the "Roosevelt Grill" in the Roosevelt Hotel
in New York City. The song is a Scots poem written by Robert Burns in 1788,
set to the tune of a traditional folk song.

Robert Michael Nesmith 

Nesmith is a musician, songwriter, actor, producer, novelist, businessman,
and philanthropist, best known as a member of the rock band The Monkees
and co-star of The Monkees TV series on NBC (1966–1968). He is credited
with creating the genre of the music video. In 1981, Nesmith won the first
Grammy Award given for Video of the Year for his hour-long television show,
Elephant Parts.

Ding Dong School, known as "the nursery school of the air", was a half-hour
children’s television show which began November 24, 1952 on WNBQ-TV
(now WMAQ-TV) in Chicago, Illinois a few months before its four-year run
on NBC.

A precursor to both Sesame Street and Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood, the
show was hosted live by “Miss Frances" (above). At one point it was the most
popular TV series aimed at preschoolers.
