The musical variety show The Lawrence Welk Show, hosted by big band
leader Lawrence Welk, aired locally in Los Angeles for four years, from
1951 to 1955, then nationally for another 27½ years via the ABC network,
from 1955 to 1971. The series then moved to syndication until 1982.

ACTOR DEAN JONES HAS DIED AT 84

Dean Carroll Jones (January 25, 1931 – September 1, 2015)

LOS ANGELES (AP) –  A Disney star of the 1960s, Dean Jones, has
died of Parkinson’s Disease.

Jones boyish good looks and all-American manner made him Disney’s
favorite young actor for such lighthearted films as "That Darn Cat!" in
1965 and "The Love Bug” in 1968.

Jones’ long association with The Walt Disney Co. began after he received
an unexpected call from Walt Disney himself, who praised his work on the
NBC-TV show "Ensign O’Toole," commenting it had "some good closing
sequences."

NOTE: Dean Jones became a devout born-again Christian in 1973–1974
and In 1998 Jones founded the Christian Rescue Committee (CRC), an
organization that helps provide a "way of escape to Jews, Christians, and
others persecuted for their faith.

Mary Jean "Lily" Tomlin was born in Detroit, Michigan.


Award-winning comedienne Lily Tomlin’s breakout role was performing as a
cast member on the NBC variety show Rowan & Martin’s Laugh-In from 1970
until 1973. She became known later for her role in the film 9 to 5 (1980). She
began performing as a stand-up comedian in nightclubs after graduating from
college.
