Winter solstice is the day with the fewest hours of sunlight during the
whole year. The word solstice comes from the Latin words for “sun”
and “to stand still.” Winter this year officially begins tonight at 11:48
P.M. EST. After this date, the days start getting “longer,” i.e., the
amount of daylight begins to increase.
Apollo 12 was the sixth manned flight in the U.S. Apollo program and the second to
land on the Moon. It was launched from the Kennedy Space Center, Florida, four months after Apollo 11.
