WILD KINGDOM was hosted by Zoologist and zoo curator Marlin Perkins.
The half-hour nature program aired Sundays on NBC-TV until 1971, when
it went into syndication. Perkins was host for most of the show’s history
until he was forced to retire in 1985 for health reasons. Perkins died the
following year at the age of 81. Jim Fowler, seen below, a long-time
assistant of Marlin’s became the host.

THE FIRST WHEEL WAS SPUN ON THIS DATE IN 1975
The original network TV version of WHEEL OF FORTUNE ran from 1975 to
1991 on both NBC and CBS before syndication. The current version of
the show premiered on September 19, 1983 with hosts Pat Sajak and
letter turner Vanna White.

were Chuck Woolery and Susan Stafford, shown above.
LORETTA YOUNG WAS BORN ON THIS DATE IN 1913
Loretta Young began as a child actress, she had a long and varied
career in films from 1917 to 1953. She won the 1948 Best Actress
Academy Award for her role in the 1947 film The Farmer’s
Daughter, and received an Oscar nomination for work in
Come to the Stable, in 1950. Loretta then moved to what
was then the relatively new medium of television, where
she had a dramatic anthology series from 1953 to 1961
called The Loretta Young Show. The series earned
three Emmy Awards. Loretta died August 12, 2000.
