“MR. OREGON” ~ GLENN JACKSON
Glenn L. Jackson was one of Oregon’s most influential
figures. He was a businessman who was appointed to
The Oregon State Highway Commission by Governor
Mark Hatfield in 1959. Jackson became chairman of
the commission in 1962. He died in 1980 at age 78.
The Glenn Jackson Memorial Bridge spans the Columbia
River and carries I-205 traffic between Portland, Oregon
and Vancouver, Washington. It opened in December of
1982.

Scottish novelist and poet, Robert Louis Stevenson
ranks among the 30 most translated authors in the
world. His well known works include, TREASURE
ISLAND, KIDNAPPED, and THE STRANGE CASE
OF DR. JEKYLL AND MR. HYDE.
HE WAS A WIZARD ON TELEVISION!
‘MR. WIZARD’, with host Don Herbert, premiered March 3,1951
on NBC-TV and featured Herbert and guest kid’s conducting
science experiments. Don won a Peabody award for his work
on the program which aired for 30-minutes every Saturday
morning until it was cancelled in 1965. Herbert was a General
Science and English Major at the University of Wisconson.
