In 1959 a young singer from the Bronx, Bobby Darin
won the Record of the Year award for MACK THE
KNIFE at the Grammy Awards. The record is the
14th most popular single in Billboards Hot 100
history. Bobby also won the Best New Artist
of the Year award.

THE GRAND OLE OPRY IS ON THE AIR!
It was on this date in 1925 when The Grand Ole
Opry debuted on Nashville’s radio station WSM.
The weekly country music concert has been
presenting the biggest names in the field and
is among the longest-running radio shows in
the history.
The Delmore Brothers with Uncle Dave Macon (seated) were
among the first stars of the weekly country music show.
