“BILLY THE KID”, was born Henry McCarty on this date in
1859. Many states claim to be the birth place of the kid,
including New Mexico and New York City. Not much
is know about his origin. He was a 19th century
frontier outlaw who died in 1881 and was buried
in Fort Sumner’s Old Military Cemetery in New
Mexico. The tombstone has been stolen and
recovered three times since it was erected in
the 1940’s. As a result, the gravesite has since
been enclosed in a steel cage.
