The Oriental Theatre shortly after construction in 1927.
Interior of the theatre pictured below. The Oriental was
located at S.E. Grand & Morrison Street in Portland. It 
was demolished in 1970.

HEART TRANSPLANT ON THIS DATE IN 1967

Dr. Christian Barnard, along with a team of Cardiac
Surgeons,  performed the world’s first successful
human heart transplant in Cape Town, South Africa. 
The patient, Louis Washkansky, a 54-year-old grocer
survived for 18 days after the operation and died of
Pneumonia.
