George Shearing was a jazz pianist who for many years led a popular jazz group which recorded for MGM Records and Capitol Records. The composer of over 300 titles had
multiple albums on the Billboard charts from the 1950s to the 1990s. He died of heart failure in New York City at the age of 91.
ACTOR KENNETH MARS ~ DEAD AT 74
Kenneth "Ken" Mars was born April 14, 1936. He was a television, movie and voice actor, best-remembered for his roles in several Mel Brooks films: the insane Nazi playwright Franz Liebkind in 1968’s The Producers, and the relentless police
Inspector Hans Wilhelm Fredrich Kemp in 1974’s Young Frankenstein. He died
Saturday, February 12th of cancer at the age of 74.
UNION ORGANIZER BORN ON THIS DATE IN 1913
James Riddle "Jimmy" Hoffa disappeared July 30, 1975, and was declared legally
dead on July 30, 1982. Hoffa was involved with the International Brotherhood of Teamsters union, as an organizer from 1932 to 1975. He served as the union’s
General President from 1958 to 1971. On May 17, 2006, acting on a tip, the FBI
searched a farm in Milford Township, Michigan for Hoff’s remains and found nothing.
