HISTORY TRIVIA: PENCIL PATENT ON THIS DATE IN 1858

Hymen L. Lipman of Philadelphia, Pa (above) is credited with registering
the first patent for a pencil with an attached eraser (pic below). In 1862
Lipman sold his patent for $100,000.

ASSASSINATION ATTEMPT ~ 30 YEARS AGO ON THIS DATE IN 1981

It was 30 years ago today that President Ronald Reagan, in office just over two months, was shot outside the Washington Hilton by John Hinckley Jr. President Reagan and three others were shot and wounded, Reagan suffered a punctured lung, but prompt medical attention allowed him to recover quickly. Reagan was the first serving United States president to survive being shot in an assassination attempt. Hinckley was found not
guilty by reason of insanity and remains confined to a psychiatric facility.
