One of the main turning points in popular music history was the Woodstock
Music & Art Fair, a music festival, billed as “An Aquarian Exposition: 3 days
of Peace & Music”. It was held at a 600-acre dairy farm located in the Catskills
near the town of Bethel, New York. Originally scheduled to run from August 15
to the August 17, 1969, it ran over to the 18th. A crowd of 500,000 concert-
goers saw thirty-two acts including Jimi Hendrix, The Who,Joan Baez, Janis
Joplin, Creedence Clearwater Revival, and Santana perform during the
sometimes rainy weekend. The event was listed among Rolling Stone’s
50 Moments That Changed the History of Rock and Roll.
