Actor Mike Connors has a long history of police and military roles and is
best known for playing detective Joe Mannix in the CBS television series,
Mannix (1967-1975). Before that, he had played a crime-fighting undercover
agent in another CBS series, Tightrope (1959-1960).

rock song of the state of Ohio and Ohio State University.
THE TERRITORY OF OREGON ~ 1848–1859
The Territory of Oregon was an organized incorporated territory of the United
States that was formed on August 14, 1848 and existed until February 14, 1859,
when the southwestern portion of the area was admitted to the union as the State
of Oregon. The capital of the territory was first Oregon City, then Salem, followed
briefly by Corvallis, and lastly as Salem, the seat of government for the State of
Oregon.
SOCIAL SECURITY BEGAN ON THIS DATE IN 1935
The Social Security Act was drafted during President Roosevelt’s first term
by the President’s Committee on Economic Security, under Francis Perkins,
and passed by Congress as part of the New Deal. By signing this act on
August 14, 1935 (shown above), Roosevelt became the first president to
advocate federal assistance for the elderly. The act created unemployment
insurance and pension plans for the elderly.
