George Rex Graham, founder of Graham’s Magazine,hired Edgar
Allan Poe as a critic and editor in February 1841 at an annual salary
of $800. The magazine was the first to publish Poe’s first detective
story "The Murders in the Rue Morgue", Poe left Graham’s employ
in April 1842 but still made occasional contributions.
