Hollywood film industry leaders gathered in a hotel ballroom to organize the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) is a professional
honorary organization composed of over 6,000 motion picture professionals
dedicated to the advancement of the arts and sciences of motion pictures. It
is known around the world for its annual Academy Awards, informally known
as the "Oscars".

Bob Swanson (seated) (May 20, 1942 – September 11, 2001) and Barney
Keep (January 9, 1917 – July 22, 2000). Both had worked at radio KEX
1190 prior to retirement, Swanson in 1994 after 27 years with the station
and Keep in 1979 ending 35 years on the air as KEX’s morning-drive king.
